We had a few scares over the last few weeks in regards to security in Belgium and if the final would actually take place in Ghent this weekend.
Thankfully security is in place, the players are happy and the fans are on their way to Belgium ready to support the teams,
The Day 1 schedule has just been released and it is Kyle Edmund who rightly gets the nod to play singles ahead of James Ward. The young British talent will open the Davis Cup final proceedings with a very tough match against Belgian number 1 and ATP top 20 player David Goffin. Kyle though will not be over powered by Goffin, but may still be left frustrated and David has all the shots and can be awkward to play against, Goffin has great touch and ability. but don't forget Edmund is a tipped a big future talent and will thrive on being given the chance here. Edmund needs to serve well and try to dictate play, Goffin will hit rallies all day long on clay and wait for his opponent to make the mistakes, a confident start by Kyle is vital. I suspect Goffin will get the win, but I think Kyle will play well and show the world that he is a player to watch. The more time on court that Edmund can make Goffin play will be beneficial for the GB team so if he can pinch a set then Andy Murray and Co will be happy.
Andy Murray then takes on Ruben Bemelmans in the 2nd rubber of the day. I do not see any problems for the ATP world number 2 and can't see anything other than a straight sets win for the Brit. Bemelmans is a Challenger level player and not good enough to trouble Andy who will want to conserve as much energy as possible for the 2nd singles match where he will play Goffin and also for the doubles if he is selected.
The world will be watching this Davis Cup Tennis Final in Ghent and lets hope the British players shine!
